Helena had another good day today! The big news is that Helena chest was closed today-one day early!!! After her surgery they kept her chest open, so that there was room for things to expand. As I said in my last post, babies who have this surgery swell up quite a bit. Luckily, Helena has not been that swollen. So at about 1:30 this afternoon the surgeons closed up her chest in the hospital room. The doctors say that she is healing up quite well and she is re-writing the book on how to heal from the Norwood procedure. Each and every day we are extremely thankful for each step that Helena makes toward recovery. Tomorrow I begin my job at Christ hospital as a chaplain and hopefully Helena will have a few more tubes removed. We still have a long road to travel, but we are thankful for each moment with our daughter. Thank you for all of your love, support and prayers. God bless, good night and more tomorrow.

Dear Helena:
We can't wait to see you this weekend. We are so happy to hear that all is going so well with your recovery! We love you, Auntie Annie and Uncle Grant
Dear sweet Helena,
Your mommy and daddy are so blessed to have you!
You don't know me I am a friend of your Auntie Anne and Uncle Grant... Caryn Buxengard.
I have a sweet little girl just like you who had a very hard start to life. She has had many surgeries too but none quite so big as your heart surgeries. My daughter Samantha is now off to Kindergarten in 3-4 days! I know that you will get through all this with the love and comfort from all your family and I will soon hear that you too are off to Kindergarten!!!!!
Everyone Take Care and God Bless you all... you are truly blessed with Helena!
Love,
Caryn Buxengard
It's so good to hear how well Helena is doing. All our prayers have, of course, been with you. It's amazing how babies can bounce back after such stress on their systems. And if she's anything like her parents, it doesn't surprise me that she's rewriting the book on recovery. All our love goes out to you (there's more people praying for you guys than you'd even imagine!) God bless.

Dear Helena,
We are all praying for you and we want you to know how much you are loved, but the problem is this blog page isn't big enough. You are a blessing to your mom and dad, the whole family and friends. We can't wait to see your beautiful face around seminary.
Love, Joe and Tammy
Just met Helena's grandparents they picked up the car and showed us pictures ofthe most beautiful baby girl ever! We are glad she is doing so well we will continue with prayers for all of you.
God bless you
Dear Aaron and Mary ,
This is our fourth attempt at sending a message to you via this means. Each time when I check back later, it looks like our message is not among those listed. We don't know if you have received any of them or not, but will try again......
We just wanted to congratulate you on the birth of that beautiful little girl, and to say that we are so sorry that Helena Katharine and all of your families are having to go through this very difficult time ! You have been in our thoughts and prayers.
After just now reading Aaron's entry from last evening, we are so thankful that Helena is making such good progress !
In Aaron's note Wednesday evening he said, "Isn't it crazy how it worked out that I'll be working only a 5 minute walk from Helena while I'm at work!" I can't help but think of something someone once said to me...."....there are no cooincidences, only times when God chooses to remain annonymous."
We're are glad to hear that Mary is recovering from her C-Section well.
You'll continue to be in our thoughts and prayers and wish God's blessings on all three of you !
Love, Dean and Jan Skallerud
P.S. I've never tried sending a message under the "anonymous" catagory, so will try that to see if it "flies" successfully this time. :-)
Dear Aaron, Mary and Helena
Congratulations! Helena we are so thankful for you. We are happy for your daily improvement and know God's hand is with each of you. We are keeping you in our prayers too. Mary, we are happy to hear you are improving too. Aaron, we know that God is going to use your ministry at Christ Hospital as well as give you time for Helena. God continue to bless you and know we will keep you in our prayers. Rom.8:28 Grandpa Carl and Grandma Martha's favorite verse. Our love, Auntie Margie and Uncle Larry
